Easter Weekend 2013

Here is a recap of our weekend in photos:

KU Game

Sadly, the Jayhawks lost to Michigan on Friday night, so this:

Happy Hour drinks on the patio at Austin's with Rachel.

Turned into this:

Shots, long islands & more w/Cory, Rachel & a couple of her friends.

I tried to reign myself back in on Saturday by having this for lunch:

A Hawaiian steak salad from the Bent Fork.

Easter Party + Shocker Game

Our friends, Erin & Stephan had us over for an Easter Drinks & Dessert Party on Saturday, which was super cute. Check it out!

While we were there we watched the Shocker game. The Shockers had not been to the Elite 8 since 1981 and we were ecstatic as we watched them make it to the Final Four (that they had not been to since 1964)! So we went out to celebrate with some sake & sushi.

After one awesome church service today, we took the pups on a little hike up at Horsetooth.

I hope you had a wonderful day!

Happy Good Friday!

This being my 100th post and all, I found it fitting to use this space to explain the thought process behind my new title, A Life with Luster.

In my opinion, life is about creating yourself. It's about figuring out who you are & what you are meant to do in the world.

So I want my blog to be a reflection of my journey. A journey that is flawed, beautiful and always evolving. A journey that has a little luster.

I enjoy writing about the vastness of life as a twenty-something, married, working girl - the good & the bad. A life that is anything but stagnant, that has intentions to be in the moment & enjoy each day to the fullest.

Connecting my past to where I am now & where I am going.

Allowing me to express myself & my creativity - imperfect as it may be.

So I thought it was time for a new name to reflect this. And that's how Days I Can't Get Over turned into A Life with Luster.

I hope you will follow along this new journey!

Kate Spade Diagonal Striped Case in Gold

This is possibly the most gorgeous iPhone 4s case ever. Well, appearance-wise. Protection-wise? Not so much. It IS a hard case after all & I've never been a fan of hard cases. Still, even without great protection - it is so pretty it's worth it.

I was excited to see that some of my favorite bloggers also share my love for this gorgeous tech accessory.

You can get it here!

I look forward to many things in spring - going coatless, outdoor patios, sneaking to the pool for the first time, taking enjoyable walks with my dogs...

Of the many things I enjoy, snow is not one of them. Did I move to Colorado or something??

Here we are, my pups & I witnessing our first spring snow as Fort Collins residents yesterday. By the way, this is NOTHING compared to the snow storm we woke up this morning!

I don't think Winston's too impressed, either.

Natty loves it. I could barely get this girl to hold still.

When in Rome?

I hope the first weekend is spring is off to a warmer start for you than it is for me!

I'm still in the process of making the complete transfer, so please have patience with my blog over the next six weeks or so while it will be continually updating.

St. Paddy's Day

Always one of my favorite holidays due to the festiveness. Not many words are needed, so here is my Saturday (we celebrated a day early) in photos:

Taking my coffee w/Irish Cream.

Watching my Jayhwaks win.

Going to Erin & Stefan's house for a little shindig.

Relishing Erin's yummy appetizer spread.

Enjoying this flavored olive oil from a local shop in Fort Collins.

Drinking green beer.

Spending time w/my man.

Moscow Muling (my first!) + Gaming.

Poppin Tags

You know, like the song? Well, sort of.

Cory found this cute little shop called Vines Vintage, that sells refurbished pieces - anything from dresses to dressers. Very neat!

Along with a beautiful, modern desk, I found this blazer for $16! Therefore, I feel that I can acurately say I was poppin tags

My $16 blazer doesn't look too much unlike this Banana Republic blazer.

And this is how I wore it to work, paired with a white Target tank, a cream flowy tank from Francesa's, my Articles of Society skinnies & nude Steve Madden pumps. I added just my signature gold Kate Spade bangle & Mrs. necklace, to keep it classic.

Plus a red lip + Micahel Kors aviators, of course.

I got the inspiration to search for used goods from this post from The Sweetest Thing Blog and now I'm sold.

We also snatched up some hooks for my Ann Taintor mugs.

This one is my fav. by the way, purchased in Montana several years before I began to drink coffee on a regular basis.

And this cool key holder!

If you've never searched your local antique store, I suggest you take a stab at it this weekend. So much fun!

Being Thankful For What We Have

I got the idea for this post yesterday morning as I approached the stoplight into Centerra,  a stoplight that I turn at every morning going to work. Except this morning there was a seemingly homeless man on the meridian. I rolled down my window & shouted (since my music was up way too loud) that I was sorry that I didn't have more cash on me.

I handed him the $2 I had & he looked me in the eyes with sincerity and thanked me. And then I started crying.

You see, earlier that morning Cory & I had been going over our budget. We love to travel, dine out, go to concerts & the mountains, etc. We also have some financial goals that we would like to accomplish and therefore, we really need to begin making some sacrifices in our lifestyle.

As much as Cory tried to cheer me up, I still left the house in a bad mood. It's no fun to limit the things that I love - traveling, shopping, eating out & drinks with friends, even if I know it's for the greater good of our financial future & family.

And after seeing the homeless man's gratitude for my $2.00, I felt so ashamed of my attitude.

Things can always, always be worse. And while many people have more than we do, many more have less. A reminder every now & then is a blessing from God.

Great Plates

One of the things that I love about living in Fort Collins is that there is almost always something fun & unique going on here. Great Plates is one of those things.

It's basically a food festival that runs from March 1st-14th & is a spin-off (I believe) of Denver's Restaurant  Week. Almost 40 restaurants in downtown Fort Collins offer deals ranging from $2.50 (for breakfast) or $25 for a family, $25 for two or $25 a person.

Over the past week we've visited:

La Luz - 2 for $25 Guac, beers, tacos & sopapillas.

Spoons - $25 for 2 pints of soup, 4 salads & 6 pieces of yummy bread. We met our friends from small group, Jess & Tom out this night.

Mugs - $2.50 for a breakfast sandwich.

Rodizio Grill - The Brazilian Steakhouse- $25/person for unlimited appetizers, salad bar, meat cuts & chocolate cake. YUM.

We went with our new friends, Erin & Stephan!

This was a chicken cut that was being brought around, like all the meats are at brazilian steakhouses. If you've never dined brazlian - you should probably do it. Come hungry & don't fill up on the salad bar!

Tomorrow night I'm meeting my friend, Rachel out for margs & fajitas at The Rio ($25 for two), one of our favorite spots.

And then I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Cory will indulge me one more time on Thursday, the last day of Great Plates, because there are so many places I've yet to try!

Have a great week!

Lent - Throwing in the White Flag

If you know me or even sort of follow my blog, you know that I love to set goals for myself. For example, as a novice runner I set a goal of running a half marathon - and accomplished it last fall!

Sometimes though, these goals are a bit too lofty for my actual commitment level (ex. last Lent - no gossip).

This time, I got myself in a bind. I even tried to give myself some wiggle room (drinking six times in six weeks, regardless of the day), though to no avail.

Maybe it was because I decided on my Lent sacrifice after a glass (or two) of wine on Fat Tuesday. Maybe it was because my heart wasn't really in the right place. Maybe it was just too freaking hard.

Regardless of the reason, I'm chalking Lent 2013 up to another FAIL.

When talking to my mom about this, she (the sweet, Christian woman that she is) told me that it is okay because I'm not perfect & that maybe I should just try to revise my sacrifical goal, like maybe only drinking on the weekends. My friend Rachel told me that I should just try to give up beer. My BF, Alex just said I told you so. Dammit.

So since I went all out in the blogosphere & publicly committed to a lofty Lent goal, I feel that I must also publicly admit that I bit off more than I can chew this time.

This is not a very fun blog to write.

Although I will say that I have been drinking MUCH less than normal, a habit that I plan to continue because it has actually helped me control my calories much better & feel more fresh.

I hope that Lent is going much better for you than it is for me. Happy (Fish) Friday!

Flannel at the Office

So, the other day I was getting ready for work & really wanted to feel comfty, but still look cute. That's when I turned to my classic flannel. Soft & loose, yet stylish. Throw on a pair of jeans & heels + a black blazer & you have one solid work look. That is, if your office allows you to get a little creative, like mine.

I took these pictures in my closet, so they are not the best quality, but I hope they get the job done. I'm taking a private lesson next week on how to use my DLSR to the best of it's (and my) ability, so hopefully I can step up my photos in the not too distance future.

What I'm wearing: Blazer - Target, Flannel - Forever 21, Mrs. Necklace - Kate Spade, Jeans - Articles of Society & Heels -  BCBGeneration

And I can't forget to showcase my pretty jewels. I got these babies at Redbird Boutique in Wichita, KS.

Want to make it a more casual look for evening? Check out this quick change up I made before heading to book club.

Remove the structured items (my blazer & heels) & add more laid back items, like a cardigan & riding boots.

Cardigan - Target & Boots - MK

Close Up.

Have a Happy Hump Day!

Our Weekend at Copper

I love weekends that do exactly what they are suppose to: provide you with some fun + time to get caught up on life + leave you refreshed.

We rented a Ski In/Ski Out condo at Copper Mountain with our friends from home, the Jones, their friends from Denver (who we met in January & are our friends now too!) & their parents. It was a great group & a great time. The conditions on the mountain were perfect - powdery on Friday & sunny on Saturday -  we couldn't have asked for a better weekend.

This weekend just made me really thankful & I've listed a couple of the things that were top of mind for me on the mountains:

#1 - I am so blessed to have Cory as my husband. He is patient & kind & amazing. : ) I'm so, so thankful to be able to share our life & adventures together.
#2 - I'm thankful for the relationships I have as a 26 year old - no drama, no unruly expectations or pressure - just the ability to be who we are & share experiences with each other.
#3 - I'm grateful for the lessons learned along the way that helped get me where I am today. (That rhymed - not intentional!)
#4 - I am so thankful to live in Fort Collins, which is a short drive to the mountains where I can practice the sport I began enjoying almost 15 years ago.

I hope you had a great weekend too!
